Spike's Quilt

Some friends of ours are having their first baby any minute now. He has been dubbed "Spike" while in the womb. Not sure if that will stick when he makes his debut, but one thing I do know is that he will have a couple amazing parents.

Here is his quilt, washed, dried, and not lint free - I did that before I put it in the box, but not before cursing for not taking care of that step before taking photos. The final measurements were something like 45" by 45".

Best wishes, Lee and Krissy! May your life with Spike be filled with love and wonderful memories!

Oh My God, The Bad Breath

Well, day five is here and with it has come some atrocious dragon breath. All in the plan, at least that's what the information sheet says. I took a peek inside that little mouth today and saw some pretty disgusting-looking scabs covering the entire sides of the back of her throat. Now we are just waiting for those buggers to fall off and the end of the fourteen day calm period to arrive so she can be her rowdy self once again.

We played outside for two and a half hours today. Following an eventful exit from the house involving a small blond boy doing an endo down the back porch steps (boy, was it ever graceful looking) which resulted in a very minor cut to the top of his head, my time was spent in the constant state of reminding the girl to take it easy - no, it's probably not a good idea to roll down the hill commando-style at this point in the recovery - and chasing after the wild man. He is FAST!

Tonight Mike has the privilege of sleeping in Clare's room while I get to wrangle crazy man from whatever time he wakes up in the middle of the night until it is time to get up. Yesterday when I asked Mike how Finn had slept the night before (I was on Clare duty) he referred to their time sharing the bed as "rough snuggling." That sums up our boy!

A Lack of Tonsils - Day 4

Today started out rough, but after the pain medicine was fully on board things were pretty darn great. All things considered. Clare has been a champion throughout this whole process. Today she ate and drank a fair amount, took a couple nice little naps, played outside for more than an hour, took a bath, smiled, laughed, cried a bit, and made some Easter egg decorations as a surprise for her daddy. More than once I had to remind her to slow down, take it easy, don't run, etc.

Tonsil Recovery Day 3

Today was better and worse than yesterday. Clare seemed more subdued, spending almost the entire day on the futon. Her pain also seemed a bit worse than yesterday, especially when she woke up this morning. She did eat a McDonald's cheeseburger and a few other items and has been telling us she is hungry. Her fluid intake wasn't as good today, I think because she was sleeping a lot more. By this evening, she was starting to perk up. She did most of our evening ritual, including hiding from Finn and me, reading a story, and turning off the light. Here's hoping tomorrow is a bit less painful and maybe we can back off the Lortab a bit!

Tonsil Update

Clare's surgery was yesterday and it went very smoothly. We had a pretty early morning as we had to be at the surgery center by seven and we live a little more than an hour away. Clare and Finn were both in fun, chatty moods on the way. They both slept on the way home. Clare's surgery was at eight, she was back in recovery half and hour later, and we were headed home by ten.

She's been resting, working in a workbook, coloring, watching T.V., eating a little, drinking a little, and being very sweet.
